Welcome to NRC's Website
We are glad you found it. If you're looking for a church where the Word of God is heartily believed and clearly taught, you have found one. By God's grace we are growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We would love to be of service to you. We're not afraid to ask and answer the hard questions of life.
"Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy?"
This question from Isaiah 55 strikes at the heart of the problem. We don't need an emotional band-aid or to just feel better about ourselves. We need what only God can supply by His Spirit and Word... the transforming power of the Gospel. We need to be united to Christ by true faith and experience the power of His resurrection. When we whole heartedly believe, we become engrafted to Christ. By this we become the ready and willing servants of Almighty God and desire to serve Him with all our hearts. If this is what you're looking for, keep reading and then come and worship with us. As Psalm 34:8 says,
"O taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him."
The Consistory of Northland Reformed Church
After Christ ascended (Acts 1:9-11), He gave officers to oversee the spiritual welfare of His Church. The Apostle Paul describes this in Ephesians 4:11-13a, "And He Himself gave some to be Apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God...." Our pastor, Randy Klynsma, labors under the oversight of the consistory and denomination to which we belong (see Reformed Church in the United States website). We believe faithful Churches will reflect the order and structure of the New Testament. We are to be creedal and confessional which shows we understand God's Word and believe what the Christian Church has always believed.. The Christian Faith isn't ambiguous. It is defined and clear. It is "the faith once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3). We subscribe to the Ancient Ecumenical Creeds (Apostles, Nicene and Athanasian) of the early church as well as the summaries of the Faith written during the Protestant Reformation (Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession and the Canons of Dort). They are still TRUE and ACCURATE because they summarize the unchanging TRUTH of Scripture.
Reaching out with the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Northland Reformed Church exists to worship the Triune God, grow with each other in grace and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all. We use all available means... word of mouth, printed tracks and cards, radio and the internet media, and evangelistic banners. If you would like to learn more about the GOSPEL or see examples of our roadside banners, click on either picture (or come to church).

Active in Prison Ministry
In response to requests from inmates in the United States Disciplinary Barracks (USDB) in Ft. Leavenworth, KS and Crossroad Correctional Center in Cameron, MO for Reformed preaching and teaching, we lead services at both of these institutions. We often minister to groups of 20-30 men. A normal "service" consists a Psalm selection as a Call to Worship, a Heidelberg Catechism reading, and a expositional Sermon. We have been encouraged by the receptiveness of the men to the foundational teachings of God's Word. The USDB Motto is really the goal and hope we have in ministering to these men: "Our Mission... Your Future." The Scriptures give us two directives with regard to those in prison: Remember them and visit them. May the Lord continue to bless this work.
Picture here are the United States Disciplinary Barracks in Ft. Leavenworth, KS.
Why Are We Called the "NORTHLAND REFORMED CHURCH?"
This is really a geographic locator. Where are located in the "Northland" region of the Kansas City Metro. We are located 4 miles East of the KCI Airport On NW Cookingham Road (Click here or see Directions tab above).
We are called REFORMED because we are CREEDAL. This means we plainly and clearly tell you what we believe about almost everything. We believe what faithful Christians have always believed. These beliefs are not secret or hidden or private, but clearly stated and openly taught. They proclaim the living faith of historic Christianity. They include the Apostles and Nicene Creeds of the early Church, and the creedal statements known as the Three Forms of Unity (consisting of the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession and the Canons of Dort). These three statements were formulated by leaders of the PROTESTANT REFORMATION between 1560 and 1619 and have been adopted by faithful churches ever since as the standard or measure of "the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3). Before our pastor, elders and deacons can be ordained to serve in office, they must believe these creedal statements fully agree with the Word of God and promise to uphold and teach them accordingly. We believe they accurately summarize the truth of God's unchanging Word, the Holy Scriptures.
Speaking of the Scriptures, we believe they are complete and authoritative. We do not believe any writings or revelations since can challenge the Truth of what has been written and preserved in God's Word, the Holy Bible.
As Paul says in Galatians 1:8, "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed." (O that Mohammad, Joseph Smith and others would have taken this verse to heart.) The Scriptures are the ONLY divinely inspired infallible and inerrant Word of God! (see Revelation 22:18,19).
Being "Reformed" extends from our doctrinal teachings to the way our congregation worships and is organized. We feel it is shameful that so many churches and pastors, under the name of Christianity, have no standard but themselves and their personal opinions. We believe Christ's Church should not only lay claim to the Faith, but should also boldly and clearly profess it. Additionally, we believe the church should be organized or structured by the polity or Church government that is taught in Scripture. Simply stated, Christ's Church should have pastors, elders and deacons. To learn more of this check our Leadership and Oversight at NRC page.
What is Worship like at Northland Reformed
We gather for worship on Sundays at 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM (Sunday School for all after the AM Service). Our services are orderly and earnest. We don't try to worship as would please ourselves (or our visitors), but rather as we believe God desires to be worshiped. Simply stated, we try to worship God, God's way (as He has commanded). Not surprisingly, as we seek to honor God and give Him all the praise and glory. It is benefits us deeply... but secondarily, as our first goal God's glory. If you want to learn more about God-centered worship, you are welcome to check out the following link to an article by J.I. Packer which contrasts man-centered worship with God-centered.
Practically then, our worship focuses on the Word of God, the Bible, as it reveals the Good News of God's unfolding work of redemption. This is stated powerfully in Hebrews 1:1-3:
"God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high...."
We sing, we pray, we listen. We celebrate the greatness of God and His work of redemption in Christ. We join with the Psalmist in proclaiming, "O magnify the LORD with me, let us exalt His Name together." and the Apostle Paul "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing, in the heavenly places in Christ."
"O worship the LORD in the Beauty of Holiness!" Psalm 96:9
If you would like to seriously study these historic Creeds and teachings of the Christian Church, we will send you a copy of the Three Forms of Unity. We ask only that you read it and if you have any questions or think they conflict with the Word of God, that you show us where you think this is the case. Also, this book can also be read online or downloaded as a PDF at the following link: The Three Forms of Unity.
Here is a sample of the beautiful truths you will find:
1. What is your only comfort in life and in death?
That I, with body and soul, both in life and in death, am not my own, but belong to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ, who with His precious blood has fully satisfied for all my sins, and redeemed me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that all things must work together for my salvation. Wherefore, by His Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live unto Him.
2. How many things are necessary for you to know, that in this comfort you may live and die happily?
Three things: First, the greatness of my sin and misery. Second, how I am redeemed from all my sins and misery. Third, how I am to be thankful to God for such redemption.
These are the first two Questions and Answers to the Heidelberg Catechism. What beautiful, simple, personal, and theologically accurate summary of the Christian's hope!

WEEKLY LESSONS ON THE HEIDELBERG CATECHISM
As part of our morning worship services, our pastor reads and gives a short explanation of Lord's Day from the Heidelberg Catechism that corresponds to the week of the year (it's divided into 52 Lord's Days). In doing this we annually review "the whole counsel of God," covering all of the essential truths of the Christian Faith. We have created a separate web page for these. You can listen to the lessons we've uploaded so far by clicking on the links below:
You might be wondering where Northland Reformed Church stands on some of the moral issues of our day.
1. TRADITIONAL VALUES Since we believe the Bible is the only inspired Word of God, we base our morality and beliefs on what is written in it. This means we believe God is the Creator of everything. During the six days of creation, He spoke and brought into existence the world and everything in it. We reject the teaching EVOLUTION as it is founded on faulty presuppositions and is contrary to both Biblical Christianity and objective science. We believe the Scriptures speak with authority on the issues of faith, life and morality. It is these core values that we recognized as Traditional or Family Values.
2. PRO-LIFE Since God is the Author of life, and created mankind in His image and likeness, we believe He is the only one who has the right to authorize its destruction. We believe ABORTION is the intentional ending of human life and as such is morally reprehensible. The place that should be safest has become one of the most dangerous. This does not mean that we are uncaring or calloused toward those who have had an abortion or are dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. We would love to be a source of encouragement and moral support. For years we have supported Rachel House which is a local pregnancy counseling ministry.
3. PRO-TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE From this view of God, the Bible and morality, we believe that God created marriage to be an exclusive relationship between one man and one woman. While our culture might want to redefine what is morally acceptable, the Scriptures have always regarded HOMOSEXUALITY, as it does all sexual relations outside of marriage, to be sinful and contrary to God's design. All that we think, say and do should be measured by the enduring standard of God's Word.
Ready for a Closer Look?
1. VIDEO We have tried to broadcast our sermon live through an Internet Camera, but have had only lmited success. It a little hit or miss and we couldn't get the audio to work for Apples Iphone. If you want to try it during our worship times you can connect through this link: LIVE STREAM. It asks for a log in name. Use "NRC" with password "nrc" We've had better success uploading a recorded video of our weekly sermons. At present you can link to these through our Semon Audio Tab or through our SermonAudio.com/NorthlandReformed webepage.
2. AUDIO As we believe the Holy Spirit works faith in the hearts of believers through the preaching of the holy Gospel, we try to upload the sermons each week by Tuesday evening. As these are in MP3 format, they can be listened to online or downloaded to your mp3 player. These can be found on the left column of this page, the Sermon Tab above, or the SermonAudio.com/NorthlandReformed Page.
3. PRINT You can glance over our weekly bulletins. In addition to including our order of service information, they include announcements and instructional material. As a rule our services are straight forward. We pray, we sing, we listen to God's word.
4. RADIO You could also listen to our radio ads and pilot programs. They are also listed on the bottom of this page.
What to Expect If You Visit
Most people will be dressed casual to business casual, though some (like the pastor) will be dressed in a suit and tie. If you dress only in shorts or jeans and T-shirts on the weekend, that will be fine. God put us the planet to worship Him. That we gather for worship is more important than what we wear.
We usually begin our services at their stated times (Sundays @ 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM) and they generally last 65 to 75 minutes.
Our services are pretty easy to follow, and after the Opening, we pretty much stand to sing and sit for the rest.
God not only commands all men every where to repent, he also calls them to worship. He even exhorts us as His people not to forsake the assemblying of ourselves together, as is the manner of some. (Hebrews 10:24,25). We recognize that many have had negative experiences with churches in the past. While these might make non-attendance understandable, it doesn't mitigate your need and responsibility to find a faithful church where you and your family can fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ. We recommend and encourage attendance at both our morning and evening services. While the world and our sinful nature would rather not bother, there's nothing more important than gathering to worship the Almighty.
Might the words of Psalm 116 be a reflection of the attitude of our hearts:
"What shall I render to the LORD
For all His benefits toward me?
I will take up the cup of salvation,
And call upon the name of the LORD.
I will pay my vows to the LORD
Now in the presence of all His people."
